Primatene is a bronchodilator and expectorant used to treat and relieve symptoms
of bronchial asthma. It loosens phlegm and restores free breathing. Primatene brings
temporarily relief from main symptoms of asthma such as wheezing, cough, shortness
of breath, tightness in chest. The bothersome mucus is removed from the bronchial
passageways, thin bronchial secretions are loosened and bronchial tubes are drained.
The active ingredients of Primatene are ephedrine HCL and guaifenesin. Guaifenesin
is an expectorant drug that takes the phlegm out of the airway. Guaifenesin causes
cough by increasing the volume and reducing the viscosity of trachea and bronchi
secretions. It draws water into bronchi and causes the removal of the bothersome
mucus. Ephedrine is a strong bronchodilator and appetite suppressant. In Primatene
it also works as decongestant and relieves asthma and allergy symptoms. Ephedrine
HCL causes the weight loss due to its appetite suppressant properties. It is widely
used in food supplements and in weight loss products.
Primatene should be used only by people with asthma diagnosed by a doctor or a
physician. Before taking Primatene you should consult the doctor, especially if
any of the following diseases or problems apply to you: heart disease and irregular
heartbeat, allergies to medicine, pregnancy or beast-feeding period, tremor, thyroid
disease, depression, chronic cough.
Don't take Primatene if you are already taking a prescription MAOI to treat depression,
Parkinson's disease, emotional and psychiatric condition.
